Bible Reading Plan 2026
Bible Reading Plan
This year (2026), Hillside is reading through the Bible using a classic plan first developed by Robert Murray M'Cheyne, who was a famous Scottish Presbyterian preacher in the 19th century. M'Cheyne (sometimes spelled McCheyne) wanted his congregation to think about God and his provision each day by reading the Scriptures. While regular Bible reading has been encouraged as long as we've had bibles, in 1842 M'Cheyne was the first to develop and publish a plan to read the entire Bible in a year.
The version we are using was slightly modified by the Baptist theologian Don (D.A.) Carson. The main difference is that Carson suggests reading the New Testament and Psalms each year and taking two years to read the Old Testament. You can download a printable plan using the button above (which was prepared by Ben Edgington). We are in Year 1 this year. Carson also wrote a two-volume devotional based on the readings titled For the Love of God. (Amazon link) (Free on Web)
Spreading out the readings over two years makes it a bit easier to keep up with the reading everyday. It also allows us a bit more time to think about what we've read. But if you get very far behind (or are starting late), just start with the readings for whatever day you want to get back into Bible reading. Seriously. There is never a bad time to start reading the Bible.
